Nicktoon Series “Tokey the Bear” Goes Up in Smoke

It was only a matter of time for the fun-loving Tokey the Bear and his green friend, Herby. The wildly popular series with both kids and adults alike, created too much controversy from day one.

Tokey’s use of marijuana to go on magical journeys simply rubbed parents the wrong way. And his best friend, Herby, who happened to be a pot leaf, didn’t help matters.

The channel behind the series - Nicktoons - declined to comment.

“The show made drug use seem completely acceptable to small children. My child kept asking me if we could bring “Herby” home. What was I supposed to say?” said one enraged parent.

Perhaps Tokey wasn’t age appropriate, but for millions of viewers Tokey and his madcap antics will be dearly missed.

Show producers believe Tokey was simply misunderstood, arguing that Tokey was just a bear that liked to have a good time. The show was never intended to advocate the use of pot. Marijuana was simply a vehicle for Tokey and Herby to get in the mood to play in the magical fields, where they would dance and sing with all their friends.

“A bunch of uptight squares and parents kept writing Nicktoons letters, complaining about how a pot smoking bear wasn’t a good role model for children,” complains co-creator Jerry Edwards between puffs on a giant spleef.

Exhaling a giant plume of smokes he continues, “I really don’t see what all the fuss was about. People need to chill. What’s wrong with a story about a funny, little bear that likes to go on fun little trips, meet colorful and interesting characters and then eat a bunch of snack foods at the end of each show?”

Not a thing, in our humble opinion.

Yet, as is usually the case, advertisers began pulling their ads once things started heating up and poor Tokey was doomed.

So say goodbye to Tokey folks. And may his last trip, be a good one.
